I am a second year student at the University of Brighton, studying Business Computer Systems. This course develops my skills in programming, databases and website design. I am interested in programming as I am challenged by solving problems, and am very creative, whilst being logical. During the summer I gained valuable experience by creating a website for Heritage Coaches. This gave me team working skills, as well as giving me an opportunity to apply my academic skills in a work environment.
Level 2 Modules I studies this year:
Level 1 Modules studied and results:
Whilst working for Newmetrics Ltd, a software development company in Eastbourne, I have been involved in developing a website for a Heritage Coaches. I was involved with creating the front end product. This involved using ASP.NET, CSS and C# to implement the design. Furthermore I used SQL Server 2005 to build the storage for data. I was working as part of a technical team and was proactive in contributing to the other projects I was involved in.
I am a student ambassador at the University of Brighton where I show prospective students and parents around the university. My role is to lead tours, give information and answer any questions. Due to my excellent communication and personable skills I am called to do this role at each event.
I worked as a teaching assistant for an enrichment maths project run by the Excellence Cluster. I communicated and directed year 5 and 6 students, and helped their mathematical understanding and learning.
I have built and am currently developing an Access database for Sellens French Accountants. The database uses VBA code to control and manage the authorization of the data.
I designed and built a program which converted letters into numbers to help with mathematical teaching at The Grove, a Specialist Maths and Computing College. The program was written in VB.NET and used arrays to hold the letters. There was also a feature to copy the word into another program.
I am a Course Representative at the University of Brighton as well as a School Board Representative. This involves going to meetings and discussing issues that have been raised. I was nominated, by my peers on the course, to be the Course Representative for the British Computer Society and I volunteered to be a School Board Representative.
I belong to Hastings Community Circus and have attended the group for 12 years. I have learnt to juggle, ride a unicycle and other circus skills. I perform at various events and several charity events throughout the year. The events involve demonstrating skills and teaching people. This helps me to work in a team and also demands effective communication.
In 2007, I won a computing award from the Grove College due to achieving the highest grade computing project on the course. I went to a ceremony November 2007 to receive the award and to meet up with staff and past students.
